The boys and the smiling bread beam

The boys and the smiling bread beam

A house on an empty town on a hill

Kids more than the house could hold

Tells a story of years of neglect

The kitchen hopelessly needs repairs

The remoteness of the town helps not

The pride of ownership doesn’t either

But today is pay day on the mines

The boys are already talking about it

Though presents are stories from old books in the attic for the boys,

the bread beam is smiling,

It loves the smell of fresh bread and butter,

it loves the proud looks on the boys’s faces today

The laughter around the table will be different today thanks to Tata and the old mine
